Coherent Inc. has added three new wavelengths to its Cube family of solid-state continuous-wave visible diode laser modules: 488 nm (50 mW), 685 nm (40 mW) and 730 nm (30 mW). The compact laser heads measure 100 x 40 x 40 mm, making them suitable for integration into instrumentation used for life sciences, metrology and inspection applications. They produce true circular output, M2 beam quality of ≤1.2 and low beam divergence, unlike typical modules that frequently produce elliptical beams. The 488-nm model is a direct replacement for ion and solid-state lasers in fluorescence-based life sciences applications. The 730-nm wavelength is intended for use in confocal microscopy and flow cytometry applications for efficient excitation of new long-wavelength fluorophores. The 685- and 730-nm models are suitable for machine vision applications, where their long wavelength minimizes crosstalk with ambient lighting.
