Ophir Photonics, a Newport Corp. brand, has announced a new addition to its line of high-power laser detectors: the 30K-W laser power meter. The device’s design enables direct measurement of high powers and power densities suitable for materials processing lasers used in metal cutting and welding applications.

The 30K-W measures YAG and fiber lasers in the 800- to 2000-nm range, and CO2 lasers at 10.6 µm. A wide aperture of 74 mm allows it to handle large-diameter beams.

Based on thermopile technology, the device features a reflective cone that deflects the laser beam onto the inner circumference of the sensor, increasing the radiated area and reducing the power density to manageable levels. Response time is <10 s and it can withstand a maximum average power density of up to 10 kW/cm2.

It automatically configures and calibrates connected displays, including the company’s StarLite, Nova II, Vega, and Juno, using the “Smart Connector” interface.
