Light Sheet MicroscopeLavision BioTec GmbH has announced the latest UltraMicroscope II system, combining macro imaging capabilities with cellular resolution to allow 3D imaging of cleared samples in aqueous and organic buffers.

The device uses six thin light sheets to excite samples while fluorescence light is detected by a sCMOS-equipped microscope mounted perpendicular to the plane illumination. It provides complementary microscope technique to bioluminescence imaging, single-photon emission computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging.

An open setup allows the analysis of cleared samples in clearing solution or aqueous media. The dynamic, horizontal light sheet focus guarantees high-Z resolution covering the entire field of view.
