MANNHEIM, Germany, Dec. 5, 2014 — Leica light sheet moduleA new light-sheet module from Leica Microsystems enables observation of developing organisms in real time and 3-D using the company’s Leica TCS SP8 confocal microscope.

The module uses a mirror device to deflect the illuminating light sheet at a 90° angle. This allows the integration of the light-sheet illumination and detection beam path into the vertical axis of the inverted microscope without compromising the confocal functionality.

The combination of light sheet and confocal microscopy lets users employ familiar sample handling and combine confocal photo manipulation methods easily with light-sheet experiments.
