New Scale Technologies Inc. has added the miniature M3-L closed-loop linear motion module to its M3 Micro-Mechatronics Module family. With 0.5-μm position resolution and measuring <27.5 x 13 x 7.5 mm, the system is suitable for precision motion control of variable inductors, trimming capacitors, and optical elements for radio-frequency, microwave and photonics tuning applications. It also adds reliable motion to a wide range of miniature optical and handheld instruments, aerospace and unmanned aerial vehicle controls, and biomedical systems, including fluid controls and microsurgery. Operating on a 3.3-V battery and high-level digital motion commands, the system integrates all motion and control functions into one package, including a piezoelectric linear micromotor, a position sensor, a guide mechanism, a motor driver, a control processor and software.
