Linear Motor XY StageThe V-731 reference class XY stage from Physik Instrumente LP is a new addition to its PIMag series of high dynamics linear motor stages.

The device is equipped with incremental linear encoders for direct position measurement and three-phase electromagnetic linear motors. 10-nm resolution and precision-crossed roller bearings with anticreep cage assist guarantee repeatability to 100 nm from this compact, low-profile stage.

PIMag stages do not require mechanical components in the drivetrain as the force is transmitted directly by magnetic forces to the motion platform without friction or wear on the drive. The ironless, noncogging linear motors provide smooth motion and a high dynamic velocity range along with rapid acceleration. Fields of application include microassembly, biotechnology, precision laser machining, optics, lens testing and photonics alignment.
