AUBURN, Mass., Oct. 2, 2014 — A new linear stage from Physik Instrumente provides 500-mm travel and half-micron resolution.

The M-417 can be computer controlled for automation and precision-assembly applications. It has a stress-relieved aluminum base for stability and a high velocity of 100 mm/s. Precision recirculating ball bearings provide guiding precision in the 100-µrad range over the complete travel range.

An incremental optical rotary encoder with 4000 counts per revolution controls the position, providing unidirectional repeatability of 0.5 µm.
