BUENA PARK, Calif., June 9 -- Sacher Lasertechnik Group has modified its external cavity Littman/Metcalf laser design. The turn-key, modular Lion -- based on the company's patented antireflex coating and cavity design -- has been optimized for output powers up to 100 mW, convincing through narrow linewidth of 500 kHz, mode-hop free tuning up to 100 GHz and side-mode suppression up to 55 dB.

Sacher said currently available diode lasers with Littman/Metcalf external cavities have disadvantages, since light is usually coupled out via the zero order of the diffraction grating. Its developers redesigned the Littman/Metcalf cavity so the laser beam is coupled out of the laser system via the back facet of the diode laser.

The Lion is available in the wavelengths 730 nm, 780 to 795nm, 820 to 875 nm, 1680 nm and 1710 nm.
