WELWYN GARDEN CITY, England, Oct. 19, 2010 — Hamamatsu Photonics UK Ltd. has introduced the newest member of its TG series mini spectrometers, the C11118GA. The near-infrared spectrometer has a high-sensitivity low-noise InGaAs linear image sensor, selected to match the optical arrangement. The spectrometer operates in the 0.9- to 2.55-µm waveband.

Light to be measured with the built-in image sensor is output from the USB port to a PC for data acquisition. The system’s transmission grating made of quartz delivers high throughput.

Maximum spectral resolution is 20 nm, maximum wavelength reproducibility is ±0.8 nm, maximum wavelength temperature dependence is ±0.08 nm/°C, maximum spectral stray light is -30 dB, and maximum broadband stray light is -25 dB.

Other features include 16-bit analog-to-digital conversion, an optical numerical aperture of 0.22 and typical integration times from 6 to 40,000 µs. Operating temperature is from 5 to 35 °C

The module consists of a palm-size polychromator, integrated with optical elements. The cooled InGaAs image sensor is optimized for the required wavelength range and is supplied with an image sensor driver circuit. The spectrometer module includes sample software, the DLL library, a power supply connector for the cooling element and cooling fan, and an integrated USB 2.0 interface. PC connection and data acquisition are quick and easy, and the user can set measurement conditions, acquire and save data, and generate graphical displays.

The long-wavelength-type miniature spectrometer is suitable for use in applications such as NIR spectrometry, soil and water analysis, component analysis, measurement of C-H group absorption, life sciences and forensic science.
Options include coaxial cable for external trigger and fiber for the visible/near-infrared range.
