MARKING ADDITIVE Sherwood Technology Ltd.'s DataLase is a nontoxic, environmentally friendly additive designed to change color when exposed to the output of a low-power CO2 laser. Suitable for addition to inks, coatings and substrates, DataLase may be used to code and date products, to print graphics, and to decorate metal, paper and plastic. The company says the marks that are formed are stable, display high contrast and have a higher fidelity than those created in traditional coding and marking processes. It is investigating the additive's suitability for use with glass, confections and pharmaceuticals.
