RICHMOND, Calif., April 6, 2010 — DiCon Fiberoptics has released a new microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) 1 × 56 fiber optic switch, suitable for applications such as fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) monitoring. Housed in a compact module, it delivers reliable optical performance, even in harsh conditions, with internal components that are Telcordia GR-1221-qualified.

The high port count makes it suitable for FTTH and other passive optical network monitoring systems and for fiber sensing applications where data collection from many fibers is required.

The company says that the switch has good repeatability, fast switching times and long lifetimes. It presents a compact option for 1× N optical switching for port sizes from 1 × 25 to 1 × 56, with single-mode fiber.
