MICRO-OPTICS Foctek Photonics Inc. is offering micro-optics for use in optical communications systems. Products include prisms, wave plates, and polarization cube and nonpolarizing cube beamsplitters. The polarization-cube versions are as small as 1 × 1 X 1 mm, with flatness of λ/4 at 632.8 nm and surface quality of 60/40. Beam deviation is <3 arc min, and extinction ratio is >100:1. They cover the C- and L-bands and produce insertion loss of <0.08 dB and transmission extinction of >26.0 dB. Single-plate zero-order wave plates can be as thin as 30 µm, with retardation tolerance of better than λ/500 and dimensions of 0.5 × 0.5 mm.
