A sampling device that allows spectrophotometric measurements directly in a pipette is available from Ocean Optics. The SpectroPipetter couples to the company's fiber optic spectrometers and compact light sources and features rapid measurement requiring only 2-µl sample volume. The plunger, the optical fiber, connects to a spectrometer that carries light to and from the sample and retrieves the sample. The pipette tip has a proprietary microsample cell that acts as an optical waveguide for aqueous solutions.
