Nikon Instruments Inc. has upgraded its C1 digital Eclipse modular confocal microscope system with a compact design, solid-state lasers and additional software for advanced instrument control. The new configuration mounts the argon-ion laser in the center and accommodates the installation of a variety of HeNe lasers and expanded choices of solid-state lasers. The independent attenuation for each laser can be varied continuously from 0 to 100%. Marked stepwise gradations enable repeatable power adjustment. With the VBA macro language, users can create and save acquisition routines. Advanced merge functions allow the merging of stacks of fluorescence confocal data with single-frame transmission images.
