jpk-Instruments-biomat1.jpgReleased by JPK Instruments AG, the BioMat workstation applies upright optical and atomic force microscopy (AFM) sequentially on the same sample spot, enabling imaging even on opaque samples. A patented calibration procedure ensures that the region of interest can be found and reimaged with micron precision. The composition or chemical information from optical fluorescence or spectroscopy complements the nanoimaging and nanomanipulation capabilities of the atomic force microscope to deliver complete characterization of the sample surface. Measurements can be made in liquid with high-resolution dipping lenses and AFM on the same sample area. Applications include lithography, elasticity and adhesion measurements, and investigation of biofilm formation, membrane models, biocompatible materials and cell growth on scaffolds.
