FALL RIVER, Mass., May 20, 2009 – Maxon Precision Motors Inc. has developed the 6-mm-diameter MILE miniaturized ironless inductive encoder in which the contrast is generated with eddy currents. It delivers 64 pulses at up to 120,000 rpm and has three channels, a line driver, a look-up table and integrated commutation outputs. Maximum output current per channel is 4 mA rms.

Maxon_MILE-encoder.jpgIt is suitable for use in medical technology, robotics and industrial applications in harsh environments. It is available in combination with the EC6 brushless DC motor, extending the length by only 1 mm.

Supply voltage is 5 V ±10%, typical rise/fall time is 10 ns, nominal torque is 0.241 mNm, and nominal current is 0.105 A. Terminal resistance phase-to-phase is 81.5 Ω.

The encoder is robust against electromagnetic interference, magnetic fields, dust and oil.
