Fujikura Europe Ltd. has introduced a series of miniature optical components designed for environments that are tight on space, such as metropolitan networks. Gain-flattening filters that measure 22 mm in length and 2 mm in diameter are based on proprietary microrod lenses and the company's reduced-cladding 80-µm fibers, which decrease the bend diameter of the internal fiber to 20 mm. Erbium-doped, Panda and dispersion-compensating versions are available. These fibers also are used in miniature WDM and 28-mm-long and 3-mm-diameter tap couplers.
