Coherent Inc. has released Hidra, a family of high-energy Ti:sapphire amplifiers that offer selectable repetition rates from single shot to 20 Hz and pulse widths from 35 fs to 2 ps. Output energy is between 2 and 100 mJ, with higher levels available in customized versions. The system can be seeded by a variety of oscillators, including the company's Mira, Chameleon and Vitesse Ti:sapphire models. An optional 1-kHz front-end amplifier provides pulse-to-pulse stability. The regenerative amplifier design and additional multipass modules enable access to terawatt pulse levels. Applications include femtosecond spectroscopy, high-field physics and nonlinear optics.
