Performance Motion Devices Inc. has unveiled multichip, multiaxis synchronization for its Navigator and Pilot motion processors. It enables the coordination of more than four axes of motion between the processors' chips, or any combination of them. Physically remote or distributed chips can be synchronized to within microseconds for use in coordinated motion. Synchronization is achieved by a signal that is distributed across several motion chips, with one chip acting as the master and the rest acting as slaves. This feature is software-backward-compatible with existing Navigator and Pilot chips, allowing existing designs to be enhanced to support it.
