The MC2502 motion processors supplied by Performance Motion Devices Inc. are low-cost step motor control versions of the company's Navigator family 2500 series motion processor chips. The IC-based devices are available in one-, two- and four-axis configurations and consist of a 132-pin processor and a 100-pin logic component, both of which are surface-mount CMOS technology and powered by 5 V. Users can offload resource-intensive motion control functions from the applications host. The processors feature programmable pulse and directional output at up to 1.0 megapulses per second, profile breakpoints and an at-rest indicator. They have applications in industrial control, automation and robotics.
