Motion processors with real-time servo trace capture have been launched by Performance Motion Devices Inc. One-, two-, three- and four-axis versions of the Magellan family offer a programmable PID filter with velocity and acceleration feed forward, 32-bit position error, dual biquad filters, 50-µs loop time and multiaxis synchronization. They control brush and brushless DC, microstepping, and pulse and direction motors, and simultaneously store up to four 16- or 32-bit motion variables. Communication is via CanBus, 8- or 16-bit parallel, serial asynchronous point-to-point, or serial multidrop. Applications include medical automation, scientific instrumentation and semiconductor handling.
