JENA, Germany, Dec. 11, 2019 — Metal-Coated FibersMetal-Coated Specialty Fibers from heracle GmbH are designed for custom applications with gold or aluminum jackets.

The product range includes step index fiber for operation in the UV, VIS, or NIR wavelength ranges, as well as graded index multimode and singlemode fibers for data communication in high-temperature applications. The fiber for the UV wavelength range can be supplied as a solarization-resistant version. Terminating connectors can be directly soldered onto the coating, providing hermetically sealed assemblies for feed-throughs in ultra-high vacuum applications or the high-power laser delivery systems of semiconductor manufacturing.

The fibers are used in extreme environments such as aircraft, missile, rocket, turbine, and jet engine monitoring applications. They are also suitable for radiation, caustic, or corrosive environments, as well as in material fatigue sensing applications.
