Thermoteknix Systems Ltd. has launched the MicroCam 640 × 480-pixel-resolution thermal imaging camera core with 17-μm pitch.

It draws <1 W of power and weighs 44 g, rendering it suitable for all low-weight, low-power-consumption applications, such as unmanned aerial vehicles.

Two models of the new high-resolution core are available — one with a shutter (requiring nonuniformity correction) and another that uses proprietary and patented XTi shutterless technology. This technology results in a camera that contains no moving parts, that operates in complete silence and that requires no nonuniformity correction, so there is no interruption to viewing.

MicroCam is the company’s line of ultralow-power miniature thermal camera cores, which also includes 384 × 288-pixel-resolution models and which are incorporated in a number of its products, including clip-on thermal imagers, handheld binocular devices and a number of OEM products worldwide.
