ECHIROLLES, France, Jan. 25, 2021 — MicroLED ChipsAledia has announced microLED chips produced on 200- and 300-mm silicon wafers.

The larger wafers provide cost-effective integration with smaller-node electronics, which are only available on 300-mm silicon wafers. Aledia’s microLED technology grows GaN nanowires on top of large-area silicon. This 3D nanowire technology does not create any of the stresses seen on 2D chips, which build up as the wafer size is increased, allowing the use of large-sized wafers.

This silicon-based technology allows production in silicon foundries, which can be ramped up to high volume production with extremely high yield.
