The new micro integrated tunable laser assembly (ITLA) from Furukawa Electric Co. Ltd. may be used in ultrahigh-speed optical digital coherent transmission devices.

The micro ITLA has a narrower linewidth, a finer wavelength grid and better wavelength stability than a conventional ITLA, allowing higher-speed transmission and elastic spectrum allocation. It also consumes 30 percent less power.
