OmniVision Technologies Inc. and Fisba AG have collaborated to release Fisba’s FISCam, a customizable microcamera for life sciences applications. Featuring integrated illumination and a <2-mm-diameter package, the microcamera uses OmniVision’s OV6946 CameraChip sensor to deliver images and video in 400 × 400 resolution.

Using a 1.75-μm OmniBSI+ pixel, the OV6946 captures video at 30 frames per second with excellent color fidelity. The sensor's 0.9 × 0.9-mm package size is designed for ultracompact camera modules.

The platform offers excellent optical performance, 120° field of view (diagonal) and homogenous LED illumination. The platform is scheduled to be sampling in the second quarter of 2016 and is expected to enter volume production in the fourth quarter of 2016.
