Meller Optics Inc. has introduced Microlux high-purity calcined alumina polishing powders that can be mixed with deionized water for grinding, lapping and finishing a variety of optics.

The powders are available in two grades and seven particle sizes from 0.05 to 3 µm, and can produce surface finishes to 10-5 scratch-dig. They are suitable for hard and soft optics, including barium and calcium fluoride, germanium, silicon, zinc selenide, zinc sulfide, stainless steel and semisoft crystalline materials.
