Texas-Instruments.jpgTexas Instruments Inc. has released the Discovery 4000, a development platform that includes the company’s digital micromirror device (DMD). When integrated with light sources and optics, the DMD enables binary light patterns with speed, precision and efficiency. Each mirror in the  DMD chip can be individually deflected at ±12° about a hinged diagonal axis. The mirrors — set in a 1024 × 768 or a 1920 × 1080 array — are driven in 16 separate reset blocks that can be addressed globally or one at a time. Including a digital controller and a power and reset driver, the platform’s chip set is designed to support a wide variety of DMD applications by allowing flexibility in formatting and sequencing data light patterns. Available DMD chips are the 0.95-in. 1080p, the 0.7-in. XGA and the 0.55-in. XGA.
