A series of microscopy vortex phase plates has been announced by Holo/Or Ltd. and offer phase profile accuracy, providing precise shaping to a
symmetrical donut, with no undefined area in the center of the plate.
The devices are often used in advanced microscopy for STED and laser tweezing applications. By adding a vortex phase plate, subdiffraction limit optical resolution is enabled by depleting fluorescent excitation in all areas outside the hole or trapping and manipulating very small particles. Their high laser damage threshold is suitable for illumination with >1000 mW of laser power, stable at typical microscope operating conditions, and can be easily integrated into existing setups due to their small form factor. They can be mounted in 1-in. holder frames to facilitate integration into the laser light path.
