LAWRENCE, Mass., Jan. 13, 2014 — Spectral Evolution has introduced a mineral contact probe that measures surface reflectance from 350 to 2500 nm for applications in mining exploration, core shack logging and chip tray analysis.

Features include a pistol grip with a built-in, 5-W tungsten-halogen light source; a low-reflectance, impact-resistant ABS thermoplastic handle; a push-button trigger for data collection; and a scratch-resistant crystal and rubber gasket to protect the probe window.

The device includes a metal-clad fiber optic cable, and it plugs directly into many of the company’s spectrometers and spectroradiometers, including the oreXpress and oreXpress Platinum.
