BERLIN, Aug. 2, 2007 -- Lumics, announced its uncooled 980-nm mini DIL (dual in-line) pump laser features 275 mW of optical output power.

The new generation LU0977M250-2002F41A uncooled pump-laser module is specified with kink-free power of up to 275 mW from 0 to 70 °C.

The module operates without a thermoelectric cooler, and the uncooled operation greatly reduces the total power consumption of the module, Lumics said. It uses the very small mini-DIL package to operate over the 0 to 70 °C temperature range (Tcase).

The operation power is specified with 250 mW. The package footprint is 7 x 13 mm with a maximum height of 5 mm. The coolerless modules are designed for use in single-channel fiber amplifiers deployed in high-speed optical telecommunications networks. Mini DIL pump-lasers allow a significant reduction in size and power consumption of metro EDFAs and can be used in conjunction with high-power cooled pump-laser modules, the company said.

The LU0977M250-2002F41A features a very low FIT (flexible infrared transmission) rate. The module has been qualified in accordance to Telcordia GR-468 CORE specifications. The pump performance is maintained over the wide temperature range by using a fiber Bragg grating, which stabilizes the pump wavelength.

The high performance of the device is based on Lumics proprietary chip technology which the company said ensures very high reliability with a breakthrough in laser facet passivation. Products samples are available.

Lumics is exhibiting in Berlin at ECOC 2007, Europe's largest optical communication conference and exhibition, Sept. 16-20, Booth 17043.
