Miniature beam steering and mirror positioning kits are available from New Scale Technologies Inc.
The kits feature New Scale’s miniature M3-RS-U Rotary Smart Stage, a piezoelectric stage with embedded closed-loop controller in a 12-mm diameter housing. This embedded motion module is more than 25 times smaller than traditional galvo scanner and external controller systems.
The DK-M3-RS-U-1M-20 Mirror Positioning Developers’ Kit includes one piezoelectric smart stage with an aluminum-coated mirror. The DK-M3-RS-U-2M-20-L Beam Steering Developers’ Kit includes two piezoelectric smart stages and two aluminum-coated mirrors, along with a 650-nm collimated laser. Both kits also include a mounting base, a test board, cables and New Scale Pathway Software for evaluation and system development. Each stage rotates a mirror +/− 20° at up to 1100°/s with accuracy of 0.25° for precise, point-to-point positioning or dynamic scanning up to 100 Hz.
The embedded controller accepts direct input of high-level motion commands from a system processor via standard digital or analog servo interface. It accepts 3.3-VDC input, making it suited for handheld and portable instruments. Applications include medical lasers and imaging systems, industrial measurement and spectroscopy instruments and laser printing and engraving.
