IRVINE, Calif., April 19, 2011 — Newport Corp. has launched the CONEX-AG-M100D, a remote-controllable, piezo-motor-driven mirror mount that combines the high angular position sensitivity of the Agilis piezo-motor direct-drive technology with exact position information from a patent-pending two-axis absolute position sensor. Using the Agilis piezo motor direct-drive technology, the mirror mount will hold its position even when the power is turned off. The technology has no hysteresis or backlash.
The mirror mount can perform repeatable and absolute positioning tasks, important for scanning applications or when steering a laser beam to different positions repeatedly.
Maximum speed is >0.4°/s, the optic diameter is 25.4 mm, and thermal stability is 5 µrad/°C.
In open loop, the minimum incremental motion (MIM) of the mirror mount is 2 µrad over a ±0.75º range and, in closed loop, the MIM is 0.001º with a bidirectional repeatability of 0.01º. With the absolute position sensor, the user can save a position into memory and recall it upon startup without having to rely on a home or reference location. This is beneficial when a previously optimized beam path must be re-established.
The NSTRUCT Instrument Management software platform facilitates setup, leading to less time wasted and faster implementation of experiments. The CONEX-AGAP controller communicates with the mirror mount via USB using the included USB cable.
