Resolve Optics Ltd. has developed a variant of its Model 207 miniature motorized zoom lens that enhances the deep-sea welding capabilities of remotely operated vehicles (ROVs). Replacing traditional underwater diving welders with an ROV eliminates the depth and time limitations and the hazards to humans in dangerous or small spaces.

Measuring 50 × 34 × 31 mm, the device can focus at infinity down to 35 mm. Its close-focus feature allows the lens to be placed close to the welding head. The incorporation of a neutral density spot filter permits an aperture range of f/2.8 to f/160, enabling the operator to locate the area to be welded and to monitor the welding process without the camera flaring out.
