CHUNAN, Taiwan, July 2, 2013 — SemiLEDs Corp.’s N9 and P50N series UV LEDs are suited for directional industrial applications such as printing, coating and curing, and specialty applications including signage and medical or cosmetic uses. Both series operate in the 385- to 420-nm-wavelength range in 5-nm bins.
The 10-W high-power N9 series, housed on a 9 × 9-mm ceramic package, delivers drive currents up to 1000 mA and typical output of 5000 mW of optical power at the nominal 350-mA drive rate at 30 V. The lambertian output distribution is compatible with secondary optics to allow control of high-intensity UV light. With instant on/off capabilities and a compact point-source that is compatible with a wide variety of optics, the device eliminates maintenance-intensive components such as mechanical shutters or focusing windows.
Vertical UV-LED systems support lifetimes of up to 50,000 h under optimal thermal management conditions, decreasing system maintenance requirements and costs. High-output UV sources are commonly used in semiconductor and electronic photoresistive etching or processing as well as in high-throughput printing systems and larger-scale industrial bonding or curing applications, often eliminating the need for toxic solvents.
The midpower P50N series is available for 0.17-, 0.34- and 0.50-W drive options, delivering up to 140 mW of output. The 5 × 5-mm package is suited for integration into compact arrays or for high-reliability backlight elements in UV-driven signage.
