KEENE, N.H., Sept. 9, 2013 — Precitech, a unit of Ametek Inc., has released the Nanoform L 1000 multiaxis precision machining system for diamond turning and deterministic microgrinding of optical lenses, mold inserts, mirrors and precision mechanical components.
The machine can be configured with two, three or four axes to produce spherical, aspherical and free-form surfaces up to 1 m in diameter. It features a 1-m swing capacity and 170-kg load capacity, and produces surface finishes of <1.25-nm Ra.
The 500 mm of X-axis travel allows for a longer Z-axis tooling plate, which can accommodate multistep processes in a single machine setup. There is enough room for multiple roughing and finishing tools, metrology devices, and milling, grinding or marking spindles.
The X-axis has been elevated with an enlarged granite base to maintain separation from the X-scale to the spindle centerline. The design also maintains a short separation from the spindle centerline to the X-axis bearings to ensure X-axis stiffness and enable improved surface-finish performance.
The system also includes a TMC MaxDamp self-leveling dual-chamber pneumatic isolation system to reduce vibration sensitivity.
