INGLEWOOD, Calif., Feb. 20, 2013 — Minus K Technology has released a compact, high-capacity, low-frequency negative-stiffness isolator designed to support heavy payloads while reducing low-frequency vibrations. The CM-1 isolator comes in several capacity ranges to match vibration-sensitive instruments such as scanning probe, atomic force, electron and scanning tunneling microscopes; microhardness testers; profilers; interferometers; and other imaging systems, for weight loads from 50 to 800 lb.

It delivers a vertical natural frequency of ½ Hz or less at or near the nominal load, which can be achieved over the entire load range. Horizontal natural frequency is load-dependent.

The CM-1 is completely passive, using no air or electricity. It can be combined into multi-isolator systems to support heavy payloads while taking up very little room. It can be placed on pedestals to bring it to an appropriate height to retrofit existing air tables, enabling existing tabletop systems to achieve better isolation.

The isolator can be customized for user-specific needs; for example, with different horizontal and vertical frequencies, and damping. It can also be made cleanroom- and vacuum-compatible.

It weighs ~26 lb and measures 7.875 × 7.875 × 8.5 in.
