Network Cube Bandwidth Enhancer
H+S Cube Optics AG, CommunicationRequest Info
Demand for digital bandwidth is driving fiber deployment beyond the central office and into regional hubs, local nodes, wireless backhaul corridors, street-level pedestals and subterranean distribution pods. Enterprise, campus and dispersed data center network expansions increasingly extend fiber links directly to the end user.
Cube Optics AG has recognized the need to upgrade bandwidths and to implement 40- and 100-Gb/s links, while participating in setting the IEEE 802.3ba standard for pluggable 40- and 100-G transceivers.
Implementing the new technical conventions requires solutions exploiting existing fiber strands with higher transmission rates. Installing the new 40- and 100-G Base-LR4 transceivers over existing multiple 10-Gb/s dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) metro links defeats the intended bandwidth augmentation, leading instead to a bandwidth decrease. The typical metro application requires reliable and uninterrupted use of the legacy DWDM topology, supplemented with 40- or 100-G transport channels.
Overlaying existing DWDM networks, including up to 40 DWDM channels with an additional 40- or 100-G service, relies on a simple, passive and inherently 100% interoperable approach that operates reliably across all DWDM and 40- and 100-G Base-LR4/ER4 transceivers and optical transport interfaces. Introducing discretely independent channels via different (or similar) transmission protocols and data rates relieves fiber exhaust in practically all legacy laser rangefinder infrastructures quickly and cost-effectively.
The Network Cube optical layer multiplexing solutions are a means of adding needed bandwidth while preserving continuous and unencumbered operation of legacy services.
The company sells ultracompact optical components and modules tailored to the demands of the access network. Its active/passive optical packaging platforms provide outside-plant Telcordia-approved bandwidth-enhancing solutions. The miniature packaging leverages advanced microinjection molding techniques and enables network operators to realize architectures for large and small network deployments and legacy infrastructure upgrades. The products are implemented in local loop unbundling, hybrid fiber coaxial/multiple system operator capacity upgrades, FTTX rollouts as well as in equipment for test and measurement of access networks.
