NORWOOD, Mass., March 20, 2015 — VPIphotonics has introduced VPIlinkDesigner for link and network design.

The software enables the placement of photonic items such as erbium-doped fiber amplifiers and dispersion-compensating elements, providing continual performance analysis. For each channel, the user obtains performance metrics including power, dispersion and optical signal-to-noise ratio, as well as self-phase modulation, cross-phase modulation, four-wave mixing and stimulated Brillouin scattering.

With applications ranging from a simple point-to-point link to a network consisting of a collection of interconnected rings, it supports linear, branched, mesh and ring design topologies.

The software enables the user to build a library of network elements that can be dragged and dropped into a design. VPIlinkDesigner includes templates for all of the typical components comprising current optical networks; it is designed to be technology agnostic.
