AT – Automation Technology attracts a lot of attention with its worldwide unique new features. The implementation of GenICam 3.0 is an absolute novelty and opens up new horizons in the 3D industry. GenICam 3.0 as new standard interface enables an uncomplicated connection between software and 3D camera via Plug&Play, so that specific features are no longer required for the communication between the application and the hardware.
Two further decisive advantages of the new standard interface are the two new features MultiPart and MultiPeak. MultiPart allows up to ten different features to be output simultaneously, regardless of pixel format or algorithm. In addition to the height values, the user also receives intensity data. These provide information about the so-called reflectance, which evaluates the contrast display, as well as the scatter value, which analyzes the surface texture. This not only makes it possible to generate a photorealistic representation of the inspection object instead of the previous simple point cloud, it also makes it very easy to implement 2D inspection tasks such as character recognition or inspection of QR codes.
Thanks to MultiPeak, highly reflective materials such as metal or glass can be scanned without interfering reflections. If several laser reflections exist on the inspection surface, the MultiPeak feature helps to distinguish between them and to output up to four profiles with peak data separately. Multiple laser reflections can therefore be easily checked for plausibility on the application side and, if necessary, eliminated from the evaluation data as disturbance variables.
The major advantages: The customer receives a clean profile evaluation and can thus significantly improve his quality control. Thus, both MultiPart and MultiPeak enable the recorded 3D data to be evaluated in even greater detail and the customer benefits from a more comprehensive and stable analysis capability of the 3D sensor.
