LANCASTER, Pa., Jan. 17, 2013 — Photonis USA Inc. has introduced Nocturn, a digital extreme-low-light CMOS camera for performance under daylight and low-light-level conditions.

It is suitable for applications where high-resolution detection and ultrahigh sensitivity are required 24/7. Its small size, weight and power facilitate integration into aerial, mobile and handheld surveillance systems.

The rugged camera features high-definition resolution, high sensitivity, a high dynamic range and low power consumption. It provides monochrome real-time imaging from daylight to bright starlight in the visible and near-infrared.

Powered by the proprietary Lynx CMOS sensor, it provides consistent read noise below 4 e at rates up to 100 fps, with a good signal-to-noise ratio due to its 9.7 μm2 pixels and high fill factor. The solid-state sensor delivers SXGA 1280 × 1024 resolution.

Spectral response is from 400 to 1100 nm. With power consumption <200 mW providing a direct digital output, the camera is suitable for portable systems and unmanned remote posts where 24/7 CCTV image availability is required. It can also be used for machine vision and scientific imaging applications.

The XS model provides the basic module for custom system integration, and the XL provides full connectivity via USB, NTSC/PAL or Camera Link. A variety of onboard image correction features optimize the image.
