Non-Descanned Detection
PicoQuant GmbHRequest Info
BERLIN, April 12, 2013 — PicoQuant has released a new type of non-descanned detection (NDD) for its fluorescence lifetime imaging microscopy (FLIM) and fluorescence correlation spectroscopy (FCS) laser scanning microscope (LSM) upgrade kit.
The setup includes one or two hybrid photomultiplier tube detectors that can be connected to the LSM with a large-core liquid lightguide, which is either mounted to a suitable NDD port of the microscope or inserted into the microscope’s DIC port via a specially developed dovetail adapter. The latter approach features a very high light collection efficiency of up to 80% because it happens close to the objective and because the fluorescence transmission in the liquid lightguide is high.
The device, with a photon detection efficiency of up to 45% at 500 nm, resolves fluorescence lifetimes down to 50 ps. The upgrade kit, which can be adapted to all LSMs in various configurations, is available in a single- or dual-channel detector configuration and can be attached to both inverse and upright microscopes.
