MichelsonDiagnostics.jpgThe Ex-1301 OCT microscope for clinical applications is designed for laboratory use on excised tissue or whole organs, enabling users to instantly see microscopic detail below the surface of the sample without altering or damaging it and without requiring any special preparation. Available from Michelson Diagnostics Ltd., the instrument employs optical coherence tomography to detect nonscattered light from a scanned NIR laser, from up to 2 mm deep into translucent or semiopaque material. Image processing of the tomography signal enables real-time display of the subsurface image. Images 6 mm wide × 2 mm deep are provided at an optical resolution of <10 μm. The device features a 1.3-megapixel context camera to capture the location of the scan, and it stores raw image Fourier transform data in MatLab format.
