An OEM board for adding Gigabit Ethernet connectivity to industrial cameras has been introduced by Pleora Technologies. The iPort PT1000-VB in-camera engine allows manufacturers to integrate this connectivity by changing the back-end interface electronics. The advantages of Gigabit Ethernet over Camera Link, LVDS and FireWire are lower-cost equipment and longer-distance reach. Line rate is 1 Gb/s, and latency between cameras and PCs can be configured as low as 200 µs. A submillisecond data resend scheme prevents the loss of data. The board measures 5.5 cm2 and consumes <2.25 W.
