OPF TechnologyPanasonic Corp. has announced the development of image sensors that deliver a 100× wider simultaneous-capture wide dynamic range than conventional means using an organic photoconductive film (OPF).

The technology enables high-speed, high-precision imaging with no time distortion in high-contrast scenes. With the OPF CMOS image sensor, the charge-storage function and photoelectric-conversion function can be set independently, preventing overexposure under bright conditions with no time distortion against moving options and providing a sharp, texture-rich image under dark conditions.

The devices feature a wide incident angle of 60°, high sensitivity, high saturation and highly functional circuits due to a unique feature of OPF that allows for photoelectric-conversion and readout circuits to be independent. They feature 123-dB simultaneous-capture wide dynamic range while maintaining conventional chip size.
