Optical Research Associates has released the Code V 8.60 optical design software with new features for analyzing and optimizing optical fiber system coupling efficiency and insertion loss. The software has built-in functions for modeling diffraction-based coupling phenomena such as polarization and beam apodization and truncation effects, Fresnel reflections and diffraction efficiency of volume holographic optical elements. The diffraction-beam-propagation function has been improved to enable tracking of diffraction energy losses on a surface-by-surface basis. Gaussian beam handling in symmetric and nonsymmetric optical systems also has been enhanced.
