An optical glass for low-temperature precision molding in the range from 370 to 375 °C has been developed by Sumita Optical Glass Inc. K-PG375/Vidron has a thermal expansion of 169 x 10–7 and a transformation point of 343 °C for higher heat resistance. The glass allows the production of complicated shapes, such as aspheric lenses with holograms, fly-eye lenses, and microlens and fiber optic arrays. The lower temperature required for the molding process extends the life of the die. The company says the lead- and arsenic-free material is environmentally friendly and provides superior weather resistance.
