OPTICAL POLISHING
Edmund Optics Inc.Request Info
Edmund Industrial Optics is offering magnetorheological finishing at its corporate headquarters. The technology uses an abrasive fluid whose shape and stiffness can be controlled in real time by an electromagnet. The real-time control and fluid flow enable users to maintain a constant and fast removal rate without creating subsurface damage in the optic. The polishing technique is adjustable to conform to the design of plano, spherical and aspheric surfaces and is suitable for high-precision raster polishing of prisms. Peak-to-valley optical surfaces are better than 10 nm, and rms microroughness is <1.0 nm. Materials that can be polished include optical glasses and single crystals such as calcium fluoride, making the technology suitable for visible and near-IR optics.
