fSwitch A deep-slotted optical switch that offers an ultrawide gap sensor in a robust mechanical housing has been released by Optek Technology Inc. The switch is suitable for applications that require ample clearance of the sensing body and the moving object and for industrial controls in automated assembly lines. It has two mounting holes and individual LED and phototransistor wire connections measuring 24 in. The device comprises an infrared-emitting diode and a negative-positive-negative phototransistor mounted in a plastic housing on opposite sides of a 1.25-in.-wide slot. Phototransistor switching occurs when an opaque object passes through the slot.
