New measurement capabilities directly on the 1383-nm water peak have been added to the 8000 OTDR from Photon Kinetics. To meet the needs of applications that have emerged since the introduction of low-water single-mode fibers, such as coarse WDM, this instrument enables the verification of fiber attenuation directly on the water peak. Other new wavelengths for this product, including 1064, 1240 and 1450 nm, are intended for use by specialty fiber manufacturers and telecom researchers working on the development of rare-earth-doped-fiber designs for fiber amplifiers and for the validation of standard fibers for applications such as Raman amplification.
